Love these days!
This summer we have been doing alot outside! We discovered this park after meeting with a friend and her children. It's such a great outdoor playground for the kids! Ben gets to go on the monkey bars (his favorite part of going to the park these days) and Maddie just follows along behind him. She's been into digging and running wild while I chase her down.
Look at that little monkey! I'm so proud of him practicing so hard each time we visit a park with monkey bars. This has been the summer of monkey bars for him. He will not give up, and he's actually super strong. Whenever we ask him if he wants to visit a park, he'll ask if there are any monkey bars for him to climb on.
This one day we ended up packing a picnic from home and enjoying it under a tree. The kids loved eating outside, and I was sure to bring their favorite little treats to keep them happy. We had chips and fruits, along with sandwhiches.
This little gal would not sit still! She insisted on standing and puttering around while we had out lunch.
Nothing beats a summer picnic outside!
Love these days!
My mother-in-law has the greenest thumb. She's able to grow all sorts of amazing fruits and veggies, and has the most beautiful hanging baskets all summer long. I on the other hand, am terrible with keeping plants alive. I love visiting her garden and watching the fruits of her labour come to life. And she's often sweet enough to send us home with some goodies.
This year, Ben and Maddie were both really interested in her garden. They loved picking rasberries from the bushes and eating them right away. What a treat! And Ben was getting more interested in looking at some of the different veggie plants. It was so interesting for him to see the veggies we often buy from the grocery store actually growing in the garden before they were picked! I think the zucchini, sweet peas, green beans and carrots were the most interesting.
This summer they also discovered sweet peas! We would pick them and eat the little peas right out of the pockets. And the kids loved it! They couldn't have been any sweeter.
And I was pretty amazed that Ben was eating green beans fresh and raw. I asked him if he liked it, and he told me it was delicious! Haha, I don't blame him!
He also took watering Grandm'as garden very seriously. He wanted to do it the exact same way she does it too!
I keep telling myself each summer that next summer I have to plant some veggies and the kids and I will take care of them. But when it actually comes down to doing it, I never get my act together. But seeing the kids this year and how much they loved it makes me that much more motivated to do it!
Oh warm summer days, how we love you!
Anyone else have a garden that they grow in the summertime? I'd love to hear what you grow and any tips you might have! :)
Summer is in full swing here, and it's been soooo long since I've blogged about what we've been up to. Some of our family have been asking what's up. Here's a little recap from July when my family were here visiting for our family reunion.
We went to Krause Berry Farms out in Langley for a fun day of strawberry picking and lunch. It was such a gorgeous day out! Sunny, but not too hot.
The little cousins loved being together and picking strawberries! We brought out own baskets from home, and tried to fill up our little buckets full of fresh fruits. We actually caught the strawberries late in their season, so we didn't get too many. Plus, little tiny hands aren't always the most effective for picking delicate berries! But the ones we picked were so sweet and fragrant. There's something special about picking your own fruits and getting to enjoy them at home later.
Madeleine's love for strawberries was brought to life by being able to enjoy the little treats straight from the ground. Once she realized what was happening, she was so excited to be able to snack on the little berries as we went along.
It was so nice to be able to get out of the city to enjoy being outdoors. It was such a beautiful backdrop to enjoy a sunny day. The grounds for Krause Berry Farms was so pretty. And they've recently renovated! We had to rush to the bathroom for a quick break, and we walked by this bright and fun building they use for a winery. I couldnt resist a few pictures in front of the gorgeous cobalt blue.
We ended up picking some raspberries as well, becuase there were so many that were ripe at that time!
After picking the berries we had lunch on their patio. We had some super yummy berry waffles and corn pizza. Unfortunately we have no pictures of that. Kids were getting too hungry and tired by that time.
What a fun day to spend as a family!
So for the last few years, my husband's family does a family reunion on the island. We don't get to see that side of the family much, so it's a special treat to be able to catch up with everyone there. There's always really great food, and even better company.
We went to our cousin's place, and they have the most amazing home. The kids were playing outside the whole time. They were the greatests hosts, inviting so many families into their home. We've done it at their place 2 years in a row now!
It's so fun seeing seeing the kids every year. I love that they're all lined up on the wall, eating their ice cream. Isn't this the sweetest lookin' bunch ever? Love these little ones!
I'd love to know if you have any family reunion traditions!
So we are pretty late to our Father's day post, but I wanted to put it up anyways. We had a really relaxing week spent with both our father's and of course Josh too.
For father's day, I wanted to do a project with Ben to give to his daddy. We ended up doing a DIY Coaster project from using tiles from Home Depot and some paint. This project didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to. First off, we weren't able to find the right size tiles and ended up with big ones. But by that point, I was totally set on doing it, and some big tiles wasn't going to stop me. I thought that we would be able to use them for snacks as well as drinks. Lol.
Ben picked out his favorite paint colour from the greens (I loooove the colour he chose!) and we got it made.
I had to sand down the tiles first, and then came the fun part. We made some that were stripes (using some masking tape to keep lines straight), polka dots (next time i'm going to suggest bigger dots), handprints, and one that says "dad". So cute. I love that Ben was able to do everything himself.
Once we were done the painting part, I added a coat of polyurethane on top to seal it. BUT, when it dried, it left a wierd beige-y look to some of the edges. I was so bummed. But, I guess a DIY project with a child isn't supposed to look perfect, right? I love the hand prints of the kids. Those make my heart melt into a million little pieces.
Throw in some homemade cupcakes and a potted plant from prescool, and we had a happy Daddy.
So happy I was able to celebrate our wonderful Dad with our children. We are so grateful for him, and I feel so blessed to be able to share my life with him. Josh, you are the best Dad, and we are all so lucky to have you.
The first day of summer is quickly approaching! We are definately still in spring weather here, but we are anticipating some nicer warmer days to be playing outside!
We found such a quaint little park close to our neighbourhood. My mom actually found the park as she was taking Ben to help her run some errands the other day. We decided to talk a walk yesterday to have a little play time there.
We took these right before heading home, which is why Maddie looks so tired.
I love that when we are outside, Ben and Maddie play so nicely together! Being outside just seems to put everyone in a good mood. When things get crazy in the house (which is pretty often!) talking some time to go out always does the trick. It's interesting how a small thing like being outside can help so much!
We are looking forward to seeing my family in just a week! I've got my sister and her family coming next week and I can hardly wait. I've already been thinking about all the fun things we have to do while they're here. I'm also really looking forward to seeing all my cousins (from my mom's side) that are coming from Hong Kong and Calgary!
On a second note, I can hardly believe that yesterday was Ben's last day of preschool! How did this year fly by so quickly? It was so cute watching all the kids get their preschool certificates and being so proud of themselves. The last class they have will be party! I hear there's going to be a bouncy castle, toys and cake at this party. Pretty much a preschooler's dream come true! We loved both of Ben's teachers this year and we were so appreciative of all their time spent with the kids and how much they cared for each and every one of them.
Yay, it's the end of the week! :) We've had a busy little week here. Here's a little recap of what we've been up to...
On Monday, we decided to go to Ikea with the kids. My mom wanted to return some chairs she purchased the week before, and Ben loves playing in the kids area, so we decided to make a morning of it. Once we discovered the kids area (where you drop your kids off - the staff watches your kids while you shop or have a cinnamon bun - and you pick them up an hour later.) we were hooked. Ben loves jumping into the ball pit, watching their movies and colouring there. It's a wonderful hour for all parties involved.
Maddie is still too young to go in (and pretty sure she wouldn't let me leave anyways...) so she joined us for some gal time. All she wanted to do was look at all the kids stuff and get into all the beds.
We went for lunch afterwards and we were right by a tiny little play section for kids. Once we were all done eating, I let the kids in there to run around a bit. As you can see, they were both climbing onto the table and having a ball doing it.
It's all fun and games, till someone gets hurt. And you know that's bound to happen. Ben tried to jump off the table, and hit his chin on the ledge. He totally bit his inner lip soooo hard. There was blood all over the place and I almost freaked out. We finally calmed him down and as we were headed home he told us he was feeling a bit better. The rest of the afternoon he watched videos while resting on the couch. A few hours later before dinner I took another look and it was already looking alot better.
This week we also had a dentist visit! Ben is like a seasoned pro now, but it was Maddie's first time there. This was the first time I left Ben while at the dentist, but I had to go with Maddie for her first cleaning. I was worried at first, but the hygenist told me he was great, and she said he could even pick 2 prizes from the treasure chest. He picked 2 bouncy balls.
Maddie also did amazing! She loves brushing her teeth at home. After dinner she almost always goes into her room and gets her little cup with her toothbrush and toothpaste. She'll come back out saying "teeth", which means she wants us to brush them for her. Seriously, that girl is too funny. When we were at the dentist, she looked so happy when she was getting her teeth brushed. Even our dentist and hygienist said how great she was. No tears! I remember Ben's first appointment he cried and cried the whole time. It's amazing to see such different personalities!
This weekend we are spending some time with our family! It is Father's Day after all. Do you have any plans to celebrate your dad? :)
I'd love to hear! Hope you have a great weekend!
Sometimes the little things can be as simple as a warm sunny day! It's amazing what joy a sunny day can bring. We went to my in laws in the weekend for our weekly breakfast. My mother in law always makes her amazing pancakes and we eat then with yogurt and fresh fruits. She also always serves it with delicious sausages. We love having breakfast there!
Usually the rest of he family leaves shortly after breakfast but we usually stay for the day. We have to drive an hour there so we try to make the most of our trip there. Maddie usually naps around lunch and we play in their beautiful back yard if it's nice out.
Last weekend was such a wonderful day. Ben loved watering grandma's garden and playing with the hose. In the afternoon it got warm enough to bring out the sprinklers to jump over and run in. So much fun for a little boy.
We also had some Popsicles and addis insisted she get her own. She wants to do whatever Ben is doing. So we gave her one. We ended up taking her shirt off because it got real messy. As she was eating it, she started to look like a little baby vampire with the juices running down her mouth and shirt. Cute.
We loved having a day to visit with my in laws and time to spend soaking up that warm sunshine. Spring, you make us happy!
Hey All! I have been loving Baby Gap lately! I always find the cutest dresses there for Maddie and the softest best tshirts for Ben. I was looking just over the weekend and found some adorable outfits that would match perfectly with some hair accessories I have in the shop. I'm almost tempted to buy them! But I have a rule that I usually don't buy items from the Gap for full price. If I like something, i'll keep checking online for a sale. And they always have great sales!
Aren't these the cutest little parings? It's like the Gap read my mind!
Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend.
So I've been inspired lately by beautiful florals! After we got back from our vacation, Josh and I couldn't stop talking about how green and luscious Vancouver felt to us. Even 2 weeks away in Sunny California and Nevada made us appreciate how green it is here! I've been thinking alot about beautiful flowers while we are on walks and in the parks.
Here are a few items i've been working on lately, all inspired by beautiful florals. I can't seem to stay away from bright bold colours too.
These are all available in the shop now.
